Tallinn-Tartu Highway: 6km to Become 2+1 Lane

Tariston has been contracted to reconstruct the 6.4-kilometer Neanurme-Pikknurme section of the Tallinn-Tartu highway into a 2+1 stretch with overtaking lanes by the end of this year, the Transport Administration informed ERR. This will complete the fourth and final 2+1 section on the highway connecting Estonia's two largest cities.

The project will cost €8.9 million plus VAT and will add a 2.1-kilometer overtaking lane towards Tallinn-Tartu and a 2-kilometer lane towards Tartu-Tallinn.

Janar Taal, head of the Transport Administration's southern unit, explained that a 2+2 solution was not feasible as the new 2+2 Tallinn-Tartu highway follows a different route in this area. "Both the preceding and subsequent sections are 2+1 roads, making it logical to continue with the same design for this connecting stretch," Taal stated.

The Transport Administration aims to begin the work in April and complete it before the end of 2025.
